Shin Yeon-soo (Sangji Daegwallyeong High School), who started skeleton training after watching Yoon Seong-bin (retired) and grew up under the advice of Jeong Seung-gi (Gangwon Provincial Office), stands tall as a medalist at the Winter Youth Olympics and is known as the 'next generation runner'. held out.
After winning the bronze medal in the men's skeleton competition at the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics (Gangwon 2024) held at the Alpensia Sliding Center in Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do on the 23rd, Shin Yeon-soo met with reporters and said, "I was more burdened and nervous than I thought because it was a competition held in Korea, but I overcame it and achieved good results. “I am very proud of myself,” he said.
On this day, Shin Yeon-soo won a bronze medal in the Gangwon 2024 men's skeleton competition with a time of 1 minute 46.05 seconds.
This is Korea's second medal in the sledding event at the Winter Youth Olympics, following Jae-hwan Jae's (Sangji Daegwallyeong High School) gold medal in the men's monobob held earlier on the same day, and the first in the skeleton event.
Shin Yeon-soo could not hide his joy, saying, "The competition was like a festival, so I was just excited before the race. I came with the intention of having fun. Today, I tried to clear my mind, do what I did and focus only on sliding, and I think the results followed."
Skeleton is a sport in which Yoon Seong-bin made his presence known by winning the first Asian sled gold medal at the Pyeongchang Games. Shin Yeon-soo also felt the charm of skeleton while watching Yoon Seong-bin at the time and decided to become an athlete.
As a sprinter, he left his hometown, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do, and came to Gangwon-do to pursue skeleton training and entered Sangji Daegwallyeong High School, which had a sledding team.
He was influenced by Seongbin Yoon when he first started, and while preparing for this competition, he said he gained strength from the advice of Seunggi Jeong, the leading figure in Korean skeleton who succeeded Seongbin Yoon.Seunggi Jeong is also Shin Yeonsu's senior at Sangji Daegwallyeong High School.
Shin Yeon-soo emphasized, "I once asked my brother about the curves I was having difficulty with or questions I had about control, and thanks to him telling me, I was able to solve them with help. I also want to become a great player like my brother."
The fact that his classmate Jaehwan Jae participated first that day and won the gold medal served as an impetus to further increase his will in the field.
The Korean bobsleigh (So Jae-hwan, Choi Si-yeon) and skeleton (Shin Yeon-soo, Kim Ye-rim, Jeong Ye-eun) representatives who participated in this competition are all in the same class at Sangji Daegwallyeong High School.
Shin Yeon-soo said, "My friend won a medal first, so I thought I should try it too," and expressed gratitude, saying, "My friends and I became a source of support during the difficult training, and we were helpful by exchanging feedback with each other."
He added, "It's been about three years since I started sledding in earnest, and today my parents came to watch the race for the first time. After the race, I thought about my family a lot."
Although she said, “I’m really 200% satisfied with today’s race,” Shin Yeon-soo’s sprint is just beginning.
He smiled and said, “Now, starting from passing this national team selection, I will continue to run so that I can win a medal at the Adult Olympics. There is still a long way to go, so I will train harder and go sledding.” 섯다
